A Dream of China

1)I think the reference to Singapore as a "diamond city" is not appropriate, he said that to show how Singapore looks compared to China. If i were to describe my feelings towards Singapore, it would be clean, modern and friendly.

2)I think her uncle behaved in that manner because he was thirsty, but he was being rude andd unappreciative.I feel sorry for her uncle as he does not even have money to buy food.

3)I do find it a contradiction. This i because, she said she felt alienated n China, but she was eager to listen to her father's stories of the most beautiful of beautiful lands.

4)The narrator meant by his first statement is that even though the country may have everything, it will not prosper if things are not done properly.I agree that her father is a good man, eventhough her father left China,he is still loyal to China.I think Singapore should claim him for its own.

Tanjong Rhu

1)I think the respective authors use these traditional Chinese rituals for more profound purposes.Like in the story Tanjong Rhu,the authors use traditional chinese rituals to show how Mrs Li is religious and her characteristics.

2)I see myself as a modern young singaporean, and i think that such cultural rituals in todays society is still necessary as it allows us to still be in touch with our cultute and our heritage. As Singapore is developing very fast, we need to keep up or we will be left behind. But we must also not forget our culture and our heritage.

3)I think that the elderly in Singapore today are not totally out of touch with the contemporary world.Elderly people will only wish for happiness.

4)Looking back at the past is a good thing, by looking back, you won't repeat your past mistakes. However looking back at the past can become a negative habit. You can get left behind and you will never accept anything as you always look back at the past.
